Applying the laws of nature and core values in and among our institutions will help solve all world issues
Eugen Oetringer has been working in the field of complexity for a long time. The last few years he has been very helpful too in creating awareness during workshops in a Sustainocratic environment. Sustainocracy is positioned at so called level 4 awareness driven regional cocreation. Institutionalized enterprises feel best in this context of value creation if they themselves apply the laws of nature in their own positioning. This often requires a transformation of the company or government institution. Eugen explains here what the common pitfalls are and how to overcome them. This goes together with a new age institutional manifesto:
Urban forestry
What will be our future reality? More people in urban environments? Or will people start escaping urban gettos and speculative prices to join smaller communities in rural environments? In both cases local forestry is key. These documents on YouTube explain why urban forestry is do important and people do already in this field…
- Sustainable Energies part 1 – Vancouver in Canada
- Sustainable Energies part 2 – Delhi in India
- Sustainable Energies part 3 – Milano in Italy, vertical forests
From Sustainocracy point of view the urban development with trees is indeed a great step forward. It is a pitty though that we have been destroying nature so much that we need to recover it in the weirdest environments, trying to play God. We seem to want to “plan” these urban ecosystems while having to deal with the numerous surprises that nature holds for us in the process. In our own environment we already saw fallen trees (safety hazzards) due to storms, massive insect pests around apartment buildings, plants dying on vertical buildings, etc. The obvious benefits of plants are huge but they bring other challenges.
We encourage citizen’s engagement in their own environment, espcially developing living green in their gardens, local streets and neighborhoods. In larger parks and spaces we develop food forests where we allow plants, insects and animals to interact in an as natural way as possible. The living green acts as social integrator, food supply, healthy air, learning environment and form of positive energy.
Videopitches: rural challenges
During our CreatiVelo tour, to collect videopitches around the power of local initiatives, we arrived also at the village of Eersel. Eersel is a large rural municipality near Eindhoven that consists of an conglomerate of 6 neighboorhoods spread throughout the countryside. The local soil was harsh. Agriculture was difficult and poverty was enormous in the old days. Over time the region developped economic drivers in the field of intensive cattle holding for the worldwide supply of meat. A side effect of such activities is pollution and possible health risks. Other pollutors in the region are the local airport, the main road (A67) and the rural households themselves with firestoves, bbq, lots of cars for conmuting with jobs, etc.

From a climate and health perspective this region has its own transformative challenges. Powerful citizen initiatives have stood up to measure air quality, to lobby against the growth of the airport and cooperate with the local government on the other complex challenges and transitions at hand. We interviewed local alderman Eric Beex. In many countries we see a movement of people towards rural villages because of the perspective of quality of life. Healthy air, community feeling, countryside, safe environments for the children, online facilitaties for working from home, costs of living, are all triggers for families to move away from the city.
