Positive Health and Sustainocracy, a new way of living a selfaware life

Already some time we have come across and use the insights of Positive Health developed by former general practicioner Machteld Huber in our Sustainocratic processes. Yesterday, during a meeting in Flanders (Belgium), both Machteld and I shared our personal stories, which showed striking similarities. Positive Health is a scientifically certified approach to the broad spectrum of integral human health shown through this useful diagram for personal use.

Positive Health is a powerful instrument for human awareness and community building around shared values. Sustainocracy positions itself in the field of Harmonic symbiose between people and our environment. This can never be a status quo (control). It is a field of continuous, self reflective and aware adaptation, just like Positive Health.

Positive Health also influences eventually our relationship with our natural environment, so inside, so outside, with impact on our attitude towards climate, usage of resources, life in general, etc. It is a powerful instrument for coaching and guidance in the hands of professionals such as health practitioners, educators, coaches, sustainocrats, etc. It makes it both personal, social and societal, but also economical (in its broadest sense) and progressive within the scope of integral sustainable human progress.

Electric video biking to Glasgow

In order to capture the attention during the 26th climate conference in Glasgow, Youth4Planet organized two biking events between Luxemburg and Glasgow and invited us as AiREAS to join. The events have the objective to engage local people, especially our younger generations, and local institutions to demonstrate how we deal with the shared responsibilities for our sustainable progress as a species within the context of our planetary reality. Many citizen’s initiatives have already succesfully been started, often together with their facilitating local government, within the confinement of local urban and rural priorities.

The biking event wants to make these initiatives visible to all and connect them into a cooperative, connecting movement with video challenges, workshops and events in all participating areas. We all share the same objectives of sustainable wellness and progress. Let us show the world that we can carry this responsibility and show our progress.

The UN 2021 climate conference, COP26, will be held in Glasgow from Nov. 1st till 12th. We (citizens and youth) are done with the endless political talkshows as window dressing. Massive landscape destruction, pollution, abuse of power, corruption, wars, etc are destructive instruments of the old industrial self centered lobby and the related money dependent, speculative governments. Many citizen’s initiatives stood up already to make the difference against the capitalist hegamony and tunnel visioned, even corrupt government structures. Often these initiatives gained support of the local community governments, showing the powerful grassroots union between people and institutions around shared responsibilities. These positive, bottom up cooperations are often replaced or disturbed by dictatorial censorships, bribes, authorized polution, lack of responsibility, diverted investment priorities, higher up in the political economic hierarchies.

In order to create a powerful counterplatform all these local initiatives need to UNITE into a common purpose driven platform that shows that “It is happening”. In order to engage these initiative and create a European and Global movement we have already created a network from Luxemburg to Glasgow. Sustainocracy is participating as such grassroots principle of shared responsibility, focused on our core natural human values, necessary for sustainable human resilience and progress. We have engage with the Earthbeat initiative of Youth4Planet (Luxembourg and Germany) and Unstitution (Oxford, UK) to knit together all the local initiatives for planetary and humanitarian balance.

New society, new claims, new perspectives

Sustainocracy was born ideologically in phases. First (in 1996 and 2005) out of frustration around the lack of humanitarian focus of the ruling system. Placing human wellness in terms of core natural human values at the kernel of societal development opened up a totally new way of thinking and handling. New claims were introduced for societal framing.

This claim cuts us loose from dependence of financial, political and material dominance, motivating us to work freely with our natural environment directly for our health, safety and basic needs.
This claim introduces our own responsability for our own sustainable wellness and progress

When we claim our natural freedom as human being we also need to accept the responsability that goes with it. No one will fullfill our needs but ourselves. No one can do this alone, hence we need to cocreate. With the current state of scientific and technological development we can become selfsufficient in abundance in even the most harsh environments. Sharing abundance among sustainocratic communities can overcome regional shortages. This also introduces a new way of dealing with our institutions…..

A new positioning of institutions including government makes such entities not financially focused but recognized expertise oriented.

So secondly Sustainocracy became a positive invitation to join. Institutions that develop authority in servant partnership with sustainocratic communities created a core values driven identity and related importance for the community in terms of available knowledge, technological innovation, etc. They become expert instruments in the hands of result driven projects…

Dominant are the core human values, not financial investors. Return on involvement is in terms of shared values and recognised expertise, not money. A totally new economy arises.

Money, talents, expertise, involvement, commitment, etc are means that are gathered on common project tables. Noone has more authority than others as the development of the core human values is leading. Equality and trust reigns. Result driven multidisciplinary action unites all into permanent values driven innovation.

The metamorphose from our global capitalist reality, that provided us with great instruments once placed in the sustainocratic context, demands a great leadership effort at all levels of society. The reward is a new balanced relationship with ourselves, our institutions and our planetary resources, as well as sustainable human resilience and wellness for all.

In the third phase Sustainocracy became a genuin practical choice, not just an ideology. To go for Sustainocracy we need no permision from anyone. It is a simple choice, as was demonstrated since 2009 with the efforts of the STIR Foundation in the Netherlands. After formulating the option the population and institutions were invited to join. When they did they started their own metamorphose and eventually consolidate the Sustainocratic communities that arise through the authority each brings into the process.

In 2015 the Sustainocratic way of working received public recognition after receiving a European Award and the analytical review in a paper. Now it is subject to PhD research in all fields, mentioned in scientific papers and published in general review papers. Sustainocracy is a new reality that grows in acceptance as an evolutionary step in the evolution of human societal participation structures for sustainable human resilience, progress and wellness.
