An example of corporate sense of responsibility

The motivation of the CEO of DSM, one of the large Dutch multinationals, with a history in the old narrative of pollution and abuse of people in the mining and chemical world, rewrites its narrative in the world of shared responsibilities. It is a choice. Then it is hard work, but highly rewarding.

Healing people and society through Sustainocracy

The City of Tomorrow initiative in Eindhoven (Netherlands) has reached a point in which social inclusion, integration and innovation is addressed, referred to as COS3I. This engagement attempt to involve large amounts of socially and economically isolated citizens into the core human values development of our new society has reached a surprising point of attention: the human field of emotions.

It has been scientifically proven that emotions don’t only change our points of view. They also change the physical nature of our own surroundings, including even our own DNA. Positive energy has therefore a very powerful effect on people, it brings about the best in them, makes them productive, interactive with each other and emotionally capable of healing negative attitude and even health issues. Furthermore the positive drive gives positiveness back in the format of abundance.

When we started to address these issues we needed to learn how to deal with the diversity of emotions related to our own and the current meanstream attitude (often very selfish, narrow minded, individualistic with apathy and lack of motivation), the potential of changing mentalities and dealing with hurtful experiences in people’s lifes. The latter could be the possible cause of their isolation in the first place. This became significant because in our own case such emotional issues had been our own motivation to actually start our initiatives. Sustainocracy for instance is the consequence of my own traumatic experiences both in marriage, changing country with the related culture shocks and dealing with money driven governance. Having solved my issues with governance and culture through the positive introduction of Sustainocratic processes the remaining issue in me was how to deal with my broken marriages and my disturbed relationship with women.

Casually COS3I was set up by me and a nice looking woman. The personal interaction opened up the box of Pandora in me. The struggle got me out of my rational routines and artificial comfort zone, within the rollercoaster of emotions. Fear, love, care, interests, greed, etc came by and my system needed to react to come to terms with myself. My personal chaos was enough to upset me for weeks. I communicated my experiences extensively through blogs and Facebook. To my surprise I received hundreds of messages back of people who were going through a similar process of letting go old scars and healing themselves from old or new pains. They were pleased that I raised the issue openly and transparently. Many were people I worked with on a regular basis and I had no idea. We live in a culture in which emotions are dealt with in private with terrible consequences. This was going to change. I was determined as this group process was helping me heal faster than anything else. My female COS3I partner disconnected from me but kept in touch with COS3I by feeding me with some contacts.

Another very attractive woman, younger still and very good looking, suddenly connected with me and a proved to be a gift from heaven. She became the ultimate councillor, replacing the first seemlessly with the difference that with her I could relate with better control over all the disturbing emotions.

She is gifted with very powerful spirituality, connecting to the universal energy of healing. It was a very special experience to deal with her and settle my inner confusion about the material world in relation to women (connecting through real meaning or just from frustrated sexuality and romance point of view?). With this very vibrant, open and pure personality it was not more than ethical for me to focus on my meaningful relationship with her. With the first partner I could address COS3I locally in a powerful way (if she decided to join me again) but this special woman could set the pace for a global movement connecting complex spiritual meaning and organizational action. I became illuminated by both:

  • my own weakness, old damages and necessary healing patterns to establish a situation of equality between the masculine and feminine energy streams for effective and powerfull positive energy multiplication between the two.
  • the true meaning of female universal regeneration energy, with the healing powers in relation to Sustainocracy as a societal cocreation model. Both complement eachother but are not the same. The feminine stream feeds the masculine one of Sustainocracy with endless universal meaning.

New participants were primarily women trying to connect with me to see if we could meet up and talk. Open transparent dialoog was very helpful for me and these people. At the same time the scope of our initiative grew despite the differences I had with my fellow initiator of COS3I. This showed that the energies are not necessarily personalized but channeled through multiple persons. This does not exclude one or the other but leaves room for people to heal themselves in their own processes and engage when they are ready. New projects appeared from people who connected their talents after connecting their emotions first. Amazing!

To be and do

The awareness breakthrough is a real, memorable point in a person’s life

My own model for the human complexity (above) shows two lines of interaction for sustainable human progress: the moral/ethical line of “to be”, a highly femine line for change, awareness, renewal. And the active, organizational line of “to be”, highly masculine, results driven, growth oriented. The interference and engagement of women, both at the practical end of COS3I as well as the mirroring advisory part for me, became a new source of illumination. The feminine energy, the energy of the emotions, had been poorly developed in the City of Tomorrow, retained by my own blockages. Now they started to disappear. I myself was healing. My diet started to change, I could live suddenly without pain tablets for my problems with ligaments, and my lifestyle transformed further. Also my relationship with women developed positively at a rapid pace.

We got acquainted with 100’s of emotion driven initiatives in town and all we needed to do is try to connect those to COS3I rather than trying to reinvent the wheel over and over again. In fact, my founding female colleague had mentioned such a thing before but I had never listened enough. I now remember but I could not yet give it an organizational (masculine) basis back then. Now suddenly I can and events are being started in which we don’t organize anything ourselves but get the COS3I target groups to deal with the challenges of organizing the events themselves, healing themselves as they develop their challenges. The positive feminine energy is transforming society and the attitude as well as involvement of people. Lifestyle is not just a rational issue but an emotional one, especially when drama converts into opportunity.

In a short time the doors opened again of government, businesses, schools, etc. They all wanted to be part of it despite their own pains to get engaged. They needed the open freedom and space too to be able to react and heal their own historical and present pains. Sustainocracy is proving to be the environment for the open, transparent and creative dialogue, the reflection about core human values and the individual, group and societal healing mechanism from within.

City of Tomorrow

The sustainocratic ventures

A new era has started for me and also for the City of Tomorrow. A healed, open and complete era I assume, with a lot to learn still and exciting perspectives ahead. Social integration started with ourselves and now we can again apply our experiences to the field. Instead of addressing the action we first address the emotions. A new world for us.

The moment we take responsibility together

In this blog I explain an evolution in our region in Holland where many people of all kinds of talent and status of authority seem to reach a level of awareness and personal leadership which motivates to join in a new level of responsibility together. We refer to this as level 4, one level above the hierarchies of political and economic powers, and one in which we allow core human and natural values to define our priorities and innovative investments. It is interesting to see how it captures the interest of the global community who visit us for inspiration and cocreation. This blog was also publised on LinkedIn in Dutch.

Never before in history the modern human being has been challenged as whole to put the shoulders under our evolutionary survival. Now we have. Ever since we crossed the invisible line of about 3 billion fellow members of our species, the lifestyle based on the economy and politics of production and consumption started to damage our surrounding is an irrevocable way. This happened somewhere between the 50’s and 60’s of last century and millennium. This seems very far away but in essence is the timeframe of the current generation aged 50+.  It is all part of today still, not at all far away.

Before we crossed this invisible line the natural reproductive abundance of our planet Earth could still recover from our destructive behaviour of greed and aggressive competition. But after this crossing it could not anymore, not if our human species would continue the way it did. We are now well on our way to a population of 9 billion indivdiuals, three times that of 70 years ago. What have we done in the meantime? Gradually we became more and more aware of the problems and introduced new processes such as Cradle to Cradle, Biomimicry, circular economy, CSR, costly bureaucracy and new rules, costly healthcare systems, etc. Yet our steering mechanisms, based on sustaining the political and economic hierarchies, with primarily consumption driven civilians, has only been expanded and sustained artificially by the local and worldwide structures of financial power and control. Our fragmented money driven structures can only take responsibility for their little islands of self interest and none oversees the whole that is being seriously damaged, with very unpleasant consequences. Each for themselves take competitive measures out of economic or political self sustaining interest, contributing at the same time to the worsening of the problems without sensing direct responsibility for the whole, just their part. The submission to money remains leading, not our evolutionary self resilience as a species.

There are two twee routes we can take.

The first route is the one of the least resistance. We just keep going with our lifestyle and political-economic steering. Eventually nature will take over and reduces humankind to proportions below the line of (self)destruction. This is normal in nature. As soon as a lifeform cannot feed itself anymore or becomes sick it dies out and is taken over by healthier lifeforms. Whatever remains of the sort that collapsed is so much smaller that it is not dangerous anymore for itself or the rest of the lifeforms. These last mentioned get the new  space to develop themselves according to the same rules of nature.

According the current situation of humankind we can expect to be reduced to about 1 to 2 billion people in a natural way via catastrophes, crises, hunger and wars. Nature does not make distinction between people and just cleans up. If we look closely at what is going on in the world we see this process already happening.

Level 4 regional development and leadership

The second route is the one of awareness and taking of responsibility. We have already seen that none of the fragmented parties of self-interest can do this on their own, unless they do it together. But who takes initiative? Awareness is not limited to some happy few. It also reaches the mindset of policy makers, entrepreneurs, scientists and many civilians who all want to do something about it but often feel hindered by their individual or executive limitations. Lifting all these people, in all their diversity of talents and authorities, to a new level of interaction, above the political and economic hierarchies, we create a new level and area of cocreation, referred to as a Sustainocracy, in which the natural and human core values are leading. Together we choose our priorities, allocate means and arrive at innovative project that help change the old reality in all its dimensions. An independent Sustainocrat is enough to pave the way into level 4 leadership, the leadership that follows the development of core values together. On this level an executive policy maker can define arguments that reduce rules and bureaucracy, entrepreneurs develop new, revolutionary products and services while civilians innovate themselves socially through adjustments in behaviour and lifestyle, without reducing their quality of life, on the contrary. At the same time the functional layers of regional development become subject to integrale innovation in the field of residence, food, energy supplies and usage, mobility, local involvement and reward of participation, recreation, etc. Step by step the energetic dynamics of cohesion and care for each other and the environment develops. The good example spreads and reaches other people and institutions who wish and can participate. Those who put up resistance have to come up with powerful arguments if they keep blocking human core values, risking eventually to be held liable for this. A new culture and economy appears, referred to as the transformation economy, which has a harmonizing effect on the community while contributing to the expansion of all kinds of new  innovations that can serve the rest of the world too.

In Eindhoven and Brabant we have been applying this level 4 regional development for about 7 years now and the approach grows in both recognition as local and international support. Apparently we have created a new culture together in which we can freely look for connection between level 4 leadership of people of a great diversity of talents and authority. In other areas this is often not yet possible. That is why the first mentioned route will still show us huge amounts of human suffering and drama for a long time to come and will even affect us despite our intentions. But the route we have chosen gives us hope with strength and will, as expected, sproat elsewhere as soon as people become aware of the option its way of functioning and the potential of this evolution in human and natural self-aware coexistence.

STIR foundation is ideological and practical founder of Sustainocracy, and since 2010 initiator of level 4 cooperative formats such as AiREAS (healthy air, healthy cities), FRE2SH (local cooperation for resilience in basic needs), STIR level 4 learning cooperation (education to reach level 4), Rijk van Dommel en Aa……enz. This format of level 4 regional development has been accredited in 2015 by external research and received the VINCI European Innovation Award. Sustainocracy has been introduced in 2016 in 26 regions of Europe, India and China. During all kinds of encounters, publications, presentations and workshops you can get acquainted with the expertise, methods and achievements.
