Greening the city
The city of Eindhoven is blessed with a lot of green in its neighborhoods, but not in its city center. This has caused a lot of problems in terms of heat stress, pollution, flooding, etc. Redesigning the city for better sustainable human progress, with living nature, good water management and elimination of pollution is one of the biggest challenges of this time. At the same time the city is building highrise towers for the housing of people. In order to facilitate also for social cohesion, social interaction, general wellness, health and safety, intelligent transformations need to take place.
Two neighbors, Joop and Mieke van Bree, both active in politics and the local water board, explain the transformation at hand in this part of downtown Eindhoven. Especially the greening of the area, with the recovery of the river Gender, that stood at the origin of this town development in the 13th century, are highlights in modern, sustainable city development.
